Rockford - "The Forest City"
This wonderful and diverse city began all the way back in 1834 when Germanicus Kent began calling the area Midway as this location was halfway between his home in Galena Illinois and Chicago. However by 1837 the name of Rockford was settled on as the official name because of the fantastic Ford across the Rock River.
This village was incorporated in 1939 and became a full blown city by 1852. And went on to become the county seat for Winnebago. Today, Rockford is home to over 150,000 people and if you included the surrounding communities in your count it goes well over 300,000. Throughout the city you will find a mixture of manufacturing, professional and service industries along with a well rounded cultural and entertainment center.
